Data is gathered from CIA World Factbook.

Tanzania was formerly two nations: Tanganyika and Zanzibar, an archipelago off the coast of Tanganyika. Upon their union, Zanzibar was given significant autonomy and remains quite different from the mainland. Zanzibar is a predominantly Muslim region while the mainland is primarily Christian. Tanzania alternates presidents between Christian and Muslim, and the prime minister appointed by the president is of the other religious group.

TRANSPORTATION

Tanzania offers increasing long-distance transportation options via bus, but they are often unreliable and irregular, making traveling through Tanzania one of the greatest challenges of visiting. Bicycles or daladalas (a minibus or small truck) are a more common way to travel shorter distances, and roads are often crowded.
